Diet and Wellness Tips for COVID-19 Patients

There have been over 28 million COVID-19 cases in India to date. Having a healthy diet chart/plan for COVID-19 patients is essential for a successful recovery. This is even more true for patients with preexisting conditions like pneumonia or diabetes.

What does a balanced diet for COVID recovery look like? Read on to find out.

Eat a Balanced Diet

Your body’s immune system will be weak as it tries to fight off COVID. Consuming regular and balanced meals provides you with the nutrients you need to recover.

Older schools of thought suggest consuming three large meals a day. However, newer studies show that eating five to six smaller meals improves metabolism and maintains blood sugar levels. This type of diet for COVID diabetic patients is especially important in terms of a successful recovery.

Diet Chart/Plan for COVID-19 Patients

The proper diet for COVID recovery should be comprised of vegetables, lean protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fat. Good sources of protein include eggs, chicken, fish, paneer, and soy. Broccoli, bell pepper, ginger, garlic, spinach, and almonds are particularly beneficial to the immune system.

Fruit is also encouraged but due to its large amount of natural sugars should be limited in diabetic patients. When consuming fruit, citrus is always a good option, as it contains many essential vitamins that aid in recovery.

Don’t Skip Meals or Food Groups

In early recovery, many COVID patients experience a lack of appetite. In these cases, it is even more important to consume small incremental meals. Stick to soft and easy-to-chew foods or nutrient-rich broths.

It is important to avoid diets that exclude certain food groups, such as low or no carbohydrates diets. This may limit the body’s ability to recover by depriving it of necessary nutrition.

A quality diet for COVID-19 patients at home should also avoid raw foods, which are more difficult to digest. Lighter, home-cooked meals are best.

Avoid Junk Food

Junk food weakens the body’s immune response, making COVID-19 recovery more of a challenge. Avoid foods that are high in fats, sugars, and salts. If you do develop a sweet tooth during recovery, have a bit of dark chocolate or a piece of fruit.

Drink Lots of Fluids

Staying hydrated is almost as important to boosting the immune system as a balanced diet. Drink at least two liters of water per day along with your diet for COVID recovery. You can also drink herbal teas and 100 percent fruit and vegetable juices.

Avoid carbonated drinks, alcohol, and caffeine as they contribute to dehydration and a depleted immune response.

Exercise

As you begin to feel better, add a bit of light exercise to your daily routine. Exercise not only increases blood flow throughout the body, but it stimulates the release of anti-inflammatory cytokines. One 2020 study found exercise to be an effective tool in combating COVID-19.

Yoga, walking, and light weights are good ways to boost energy and recovery. Make sure to start off easy and add on as you begin to feel better.

Diet Chart/Plan for COVID-19 Patients

Eating regular, balanced meals, drinking lots of water, and avoiding harmful foods boosts the body’s immune response. This type of diet chart/plan for COVID-19 patients will improve their chances of making a complete and successful recovery.

Sangeeta's diet plans have been really doable. The best part is her diet plans are customised according to ur needs and what all u actually have in ur daily routine. She does not starve u at all and I have had everything during this period in controlled portions. I would appreciate if u could have more of one to one encouragement sessions for the distant clients. Otherwise it has been a healthy weight loss journey. Thank you Sangeeta.

Dr.sangeeta has recommended me the nutritious diet which helped me feel healthy, feel young, energetic, get rid of health issues and ultimately loosing weight. Best thing about her is that she not only gives the diet but constantly encourages with her personal interaction. Her diet has helped me change my overall eating choices and habits by understanding the requirement of my body. I am thankful to her for sensitising me for this.

Sangeeta is very good but my sense is her increase in business/clients has resulted in less focus on each individual hence she changed her model to "diet plans only" vs "diet plan + regular coaching/support/push". It's not useful to use her services since one can get diet plans online/or from any other nutritionist and her true value that was in individual focus has vanished due to humanitarian limitations. In short, in my opinion, she's facing scaling up challenges.
