There have been over 28 million COVID-19 cases in India to date. Having a healthy diet chart/plan for COVID-19 patients is essential for a successful recovery. This is even more true for patients with preexisting conditions like pneumonia or diabetes.

Eat a Balanced Diet

In early recovery, many COVID patients experience a lack of appetite. In these cases, it is even more important to consume small incremental meals. Stick to soft and easy-to-chew foods or nutrient-rich broths.

It is important to avoid diets that exclude certain food groups, such as low or no carbohydrates diets. This may limit the body’s ability to recover by depriving it of necessary nutrition.

A quality diet for COVID-19 patients at home should also avoid raw foods, which are more difficult to digest. Lighter, home-cooked meals are best.

Avoid Junk Food

Junk food weakens the body’s immune response, making COVID-19 recovery more of a challenge. Avoid foods that are high in fats, sugars, and salts. If you do develop a sweet tooth during recovery, have a bit of dark chocolate or a piece of fruit.

Drink Lots of Fluids

Staying hydrated is almost as important to boosting the immune system as a balanced diet. Drink at least two liters of water per day along with your diet for COVID recovery. You can also drink herbal teas and 100 percent fruit and vegetable juices.

Avoid carbonated drinks, alcohol, and caffeine as they contribute to dehydration and a depleted immune response.

Exercise

As you begin to feel better, add a bit of light exercise to your daily routine. Exercise not only increases blood flow throughout the body, but it stimulates the release of anti-inflammatory cytokines. One 2020 study found exercise to be an effective tool in combating COVID-19.

Yoga, walking, and light weights are good ways to boost energy and recovery. Make sure to start off easy and add on as you begin to feel better.
